Episode Five: Dinosaur National Monument and Blue Mountain Road dispersed camping

In the fall of 2019 we visited the areas around and in the Dinosaur National Monument.

Great trails, a good visitor center with a section of mountain cut away to reveal an endless number of dinosaur bones, and lovely dispersed camping along the Blue Mountain Road just outside the park made this one of the highlights of this trip.

This episode features Dinosaur National Monument and surrounding areas in Utah and Colorado in 2019 including boondocking on BLM land just outside the park.
We visit places in and around the dinosaur national monument like the town of Dinosaur, Colorado, the shipwreck on the Green River, via Harper's Corner Road and EchoPark (and the dugway to get there). Along the way, we see petroglyphs and the so called Whispering Cave, the Chew Ranch, and so on.
We also go along the Ruple Point trail, view Whirlpool Canyon, and then head over to the Quarry Vistor Center, the Quarry Exhibit Hall, the Fossil Discovery Trail, and even see the Josie Morris Cabin.
All before returning to our camping spot near Blue Mountain Road.

About the camping spot:

We stayed along the Blue Mountain Road, at about 40.3608, -109.0048, after seeing that the other spots around might be more tough for our rig.
There is also another spot, up a short hill, just a few feet beyond these coordinates where we saw a short class C go to one night.
(We had originally planned to stay at the corner where Blue Mountain road meets Harpers Corner Road. It it was already occupied. The hunters there mentioned the spots down the road a couple miles. We unhitched and scouted. No complaints.)
Great views, not as windy as on the ridge, just know that the road gets slick when wet so you may have to wait for it to dry before moving!
Good location for the Colorado section of Dinosaur NM which admittedly is the less popular half with no dinosaur stuff. But it’s very pretty with a couple nice hiking opportunities and if you have four wheel drive the dugway down to the bottom is cool.
Great cell service for Verizon and ATT at the site but not in many other areas around there.
Fair bit of traffic along this dirt road during hunting season.
